Livingston Chinese Community Presents Donations to Town Departments

On Monday evening, April 28, during the Livingston Town Council meeting, the Livingston Chinese Culture Day (LCCD) Committee held a special donation ceremony, presenting checks to four key community organizations in appreciation of their outstanding service to the town.
A total of $6,000 was donated, made possible through the recent fundraising efforts from this year’s LCCD celebration:
- $2,000 each to the Livingston Fire Department and the Livingston First Aid Squad, both volunteer-based organizations.
- $1,000 each to the Livingston Police Department and the Livingston Public Library, both town-funded institutions.
Representatives from the recipient organizations included:
- Livingston Police Department: Chief Gary Marshuetz, Captains Russell Mueller and Joseph D'Andrea
- Livingston Public Library: Director Amy Babcock; Library Board of Trustees Members Cynthia Waller Vallario, Sudeep Amin, and Nora Lichtenstein
- Livingston First Aid Squad: President Stacy Melhorn and Treasurer Patrick Ippolito
- Livingston Fire Department: President Tom Cooney and Fund Drive Chairman Chief Craig Dufford (Ret.)
Representing the LCCD Committee were:
- Xiaoshan He, LCCD Chair and President of the Livingston Chinese Association
- Shuk Leung, Incoming LCCD Chair and Former Principal of Livingston Chinese School
- Hong Yuan, Chair of Livingston Chinese Association
- Fang Gong, Vice Chair of Livingston Chinese Association
- Dan Wang, Principal of Livingston Huaxia Chinese School
- Youjun Liu, Living Stone Christian Church
- Jane Lai, Vice Principal of Livingston Chinese School
- Mrs. Xin Cai, Chinese Language Teacher, Livingston High School
During the presentation, LCCD Chair Xiaoshan He shared:
“With the support of Livingston Township and the Board of Education, the 23rd Livingston Chinese Culture Day was expanded for the first time and hosted at the Fitness and Wellness Center on February 1, 2025. Featuring 50 vendor booths and 44 sponsors, and welcoming over 600 children and more than 2,000 attendees, this year’s event was our largest and most vibrant yet.”
She added:
“Thanks to the support of our township, Board of Education, and Livingston High School, we quadrupled the exhibition area and attendance rate compared with past years. With more than 40 committee members working closely since last September, LCCD was an unforgettable day that celebrated Chinese culture and tradition. It was a community pride.”
Incoming Chair Shuk Leung also expressed appreciation to the Town Council, saying:
“We sincerely thank the Town Council for providing this platform to gather, celebrate, and for giving us the opportunity to show our gratitude to the dedicated staff and volunteers who serve our community.”
Mayor Edward Meinhardt offered closing remarks at the ceremony:
“We talk a lot about volunteerism—and just look around this room. The core of every organization is here. We've all shown up for one another in different ways, and many of us were part of this event. We also talk about the two words ‘give back’—which mean so much to me personally—and all of you at LCCD truly give back. So do the volunteers receiving these donations tonight. That spirit of giving back is what makes Livingston such a special town. Without all of you, it wouldn’t work the way it does. Thank you all.”
This donation event marked the formal conclusion of the 2025 Livingston Chinese Culture Day celebration, held in honor of the Year of the Snake. Organized by five Chinese-American organizations and supported by the Town of Livingston, LCCD has become an annual celebration of culture, education, and civic engagement.
