23rd Livingston Chinese Culture Day:
A Collective Celebration of Community and Heritage
The 23rd annual Livingston Chinese Culture Day (LCCD), held on February 1, 2025, made history as our largest and most vibrant celebration yet! Welcoming 2,000 attendees, including 600 children, LCCD 2025 highlighted the strength, unity, and traditions of the Chinese-American community. Organized by Livingston Chinese Association (LCA), Livingston Huaxia Chinese School, Livingston Chinese School, Living Stone Christian Church, and Livingston High School, this event was the result of 40 dedicated committee members working tirelessly from September to February to bring this vision to life.
A Milestone Year with the Inaugural Miaohui Cultural Fair
This year introduced the Miaohui Cultural Exhibition and Fair at Livingston High School’s Fitness and Wellness Center, made possible with the steadfast support of Livingston Public Schools (LPS), the Livingston Board of Education, and the Livingston Town Council. The larger venue allowed for an unprecedented turnout—nearly 10 times larger than past years!
Featuring 50 booths and 44 sponsors, the fair showcased traditional crafts, children’s activities, and cultural exhibits. Notably, 8 sponsors came from outside the Chinese community, and 5 booths were reserved for key town organizations:
- Livingston Police Department
- Livingston Fire Department
- Livingston First Aid Squad
- Livingston Public Library
- Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD)
Additionally, nonprofit organizations like Shiev’s 3rd Eye (youth mental health), Annie’s Army (Gift for Life), and Aylus participated, furthering our commitment to inclusivity and community engagement.
An Unforgettable Evening Performance
The evening gala featured 15 carefully selected performances, blending traditional and contemporary artistry. With 100 performers, the program spanned dance, choral music, and even a student-led talk show by Livingston High School Chinese learners.
Special guest artists included:
🎭 Guohui Ren – Bian Lian (Face-Changing) Master
🎵 Shiqi Zhong – Handpan Artist
🎼 Yang Jin – Pipa Soloist
The night was a stunning fusion of cultural heritage and modern creativity, captivating the audience throughout the evening.
Honoring Our Seniors and Engaging the Next Generation
LCCD 2025 upheld the Chinese tradition of honoring elders by hosting 90 seniors in a dedicated Senior Community Room, where they enjoyed:
✅ A mini-gala with senior chorus, tai chi demonstrations, and line dancing
✅ Interactive games and social activities
✅ Assistance from 10 dedicated volunteers
For our youngest attendees, the Miaohui Cultural Fair was a dream come true! With games, crafts, and red envelopes from Caishen (Money God), 600 children had a joyful experience embracing Chinese traditions.
Unwavering Community Support
This event was made possible by the Livingston Public Schools (LPS), reflecting a 30-year partnership with the Chinese-American community. Since 1995, Chinese language courses have been part of LPS’s curriculum, and for 23 years, LCCD has been hosted at LPS facilities free of charge.
Livingston High School students played a pivotal role as volunteers, MCs, and backstage crew, gaining hands-on experience in managing a major live production.
